Prof. Dr. Ralf Otterpohl:

‘Monoculture and bad soil management has severely damaged agricultural land worldwide, not in the last place in Germany and with that has contributed strongly to the demise of rural social economic empowerment. I support the project CommunityFarmingOnline, a project that will co-create a scientific basis for soil/agro-produce as a one system ecology. This will not only help to keep soil and its food producing capacity ecologically intact, but it also can recover lands that has been badly treated through monoculture development with the associated use of artificial fertilizers and pesticides.’

Prof. Dr. Ralf Otterpohl is a professor of civil and environmental engineering at the Hamburg University of Technology in Germany. Since 1998 he has been director of the Institute of Wastewater Management and Water Protection, which researches reuse-oriented sanitation concepts for both rural and urban contexts.
